Recovering after a mistake

What usually costs you the result is not the mistake but your reaction to it. A short reset ritual gets you back into the game in seconds.

When to use it

Immediately after a mistake — a miss, a fall, a lost point.

How to do it, step by step

The 3-step ritual: 1) a physical reset (exhale, shake out your hands); 2) a short phrase ("next"); 3) focus on the next action. Keep it within 3-5 seconds.

Common mistakes

Replaying the mistake, apologising to yourself, dragging the emotion into the next passage of play.

How to make it stick

Rehearse the ritual in training by creating mistakes on purpose. Record in your journal how many episodes you managed to let go.

When to bring in a psychologist

If one mistake reliably breaks your whole performance, that is a central topic to work on with a specialist.
