How much an hour with a psychologist costs

The standard unit of work is a 45–60 minute session, not a full astronomical hour. Short 20–30 minute formats also exist: a one-off tune-up before a start, a quick review after a competition, a first diagnostic meeting.

So it makes sense to compare the price per session and its length together: 3,500 ₽ for 30 minutes and 3,500 ₽ for 60 minutes are different offers.

• Experience and specialisation. A sports specialisation, work with juniors or with the elite raise the price: there are fewer such specialists.
• Length and format. An individual session, work with an "athlete + parent" pair, a review with a team — different products.
• One-off meeting or package. Packages and subscriptions are almost always cheaper per session.
• Online or in person. In-person costs more: renting an office, travel, sometimes going out to a competition.
• City. Moscow and St. Petersburg are noticeably pricier than the regions; online smooths that gap.
• Urgency. A "tomorrow, before the start" meeting can cost more than a planned one.

Reference points as of August 2026 from the public price lists of major psychological-help services:

• the lower bound of online services is around 2,000–3,200 ₽ for a 50-minute session (Alter, Yasno);
• the services themselves estimate average Moscow prices for a private consultation at 2,500–8,000 ₽;
• a narrow specialisation — sport, work with children and teenagers, crisis states — is usually in the upper half of the range;
• supervision and work with a team are counted separately and cost more than an individual session.

Market prices change, so keep the date of these reference points in mind: it's an order of magnitude, not a price list.

• Diagnostic consultation — 990 ₽. A short meeting to formulate the request, understand whether you even need a psychologist, and match a specialist to the task.
• Specialist consultation — from 3 500 ₽ to 30 000 ₽. Each specialist states the price and length on their own card.
• Subscription and club formats — for regular rather than one-off work: per meeting this is cheaper than one-off consultations.

1. Start with the diagnostic. One meeting for 990 ₽ often saves several sessions: it becomes clear exactly what to fix.
2. Measure for free first. State tests and the journal in your account are free and give the psychologist a ready picture — less time spent gathering history.
3. Take a package if the work is planned. Regularity in preparation matters more than intensity: one meeting a week over a month works better than four in a row.
4. Check the free channels. Some requests are covered by state and school services — they're collected on the page where to talk to a psychologist for free.
5. Don't chase the lowest price. Switching specialists after two or three unsuccessful meetings costs more than the right one from the start.

There's no exact norm, but in preparation these scenarios are more common:

• a pinpoint request (getting ready for a specific start, reviewing a poor performance) — 1–3 meetings;
• a persistent theme (pre-start anxiety, fear of mistakes, conflict with the coach) — 5–10 meetings with checks at real competitions in between;
• season support or returning after injury — regular meetings over several months.

It's wiser to think of the overall budget not per hour but per task: how many meetings and over what horizon.
