Mental fatigue

Mental fatigue is a state of reduced cognitive capacity following a long period of mental load.

Definition

A temporary depletion of attention and self-control. It worsens decision-making and precision, and makes effort feel harder than it is.

How it shows up in sport

Slower reactions, more errors in the closing stages, and a familiar training load that suddenly feels heavy. It builds up with a packed schedule and too little sleep.
