Level of arousal

Level of arousal is the degree of physiological and mental mobilization in the body at a given moment.

Definition

A continuum from deep rest to intense arousal. Every athlete and every sport has its own optimal arousal zone.

How it shows up in sport

In precision sports (shooting, golf) lower arousal works better; in power and explosive sports, higher. Straying from your zone costs you the result.

Related tests

A state journal and the anxiety tests help you find your zone.

Exercises

Arousal is lowered by breathing techniques and raised by activating breathing.

When you need a personal review

If the challenge recurs, affects results, or causes strong tension for the athlete, it is better to discuss it with a specialist. Sports Talk helps you find a psychologist and a format that fits the sport, age and upcoming calendar.
