Locus of control
Locus of control is the tendency to explain events by your own actions (internal) or by outside forces (external).
Definition
An internal locus says "the result depends on me"; an external one says "it depends on the judges, on luck, on circumstances". It shapes motivation and resilience.
How it shows up in sport
An internal locus within reason supports responsibility and growth; an extreme external one brings helplessness and excuses.
